About Me
Hi, I'm Laura Laughead ("Law-head"), and I'm an award-winning TV journalist, writer, host and documentary filmmaker based in Houston, TX.
My skills translate into many industries. I specialize in creative storytelling, meeting deadlines and accuracy, and I'm also a quick study. I recognize what makes a good story and can tell one in any format, including TV News, documentaries, press releases, magazines and social media.
Most recently, I was the weekend evening anchor/reporter at CBS42 News in Birmingham, AL.
Before that, I was the morning anchor and a former multimedia journalist (aka a reporter/photographer/editor combo) for KAMC News, the ABC station in Lubbock, TX.
I've covered everything from breaking news, national stories, features, entertainment news, consumer/health pieces and long-form investigations. On stories, I've flown a glider, run with wild hogs and survived a sudden dust storm.
Before graduating as the Gene Burd "Top Scholar" of the University of Texas Journalism school, I worked as an entertainment reporter/producer on the red carpet for Texas Student TV's "Sneak Peek" and as the creator/producer of an original sitcom "Hollywood U." I also wrote for The Daily Texan and Spark Fashion Magazine.
I refined my skills with internships at Good Morning America in New York City, ABC13 in Houston, CBS Austin, Austin PBS and Fons PR.
Some of my favorite career moments include working as an Instagram reporter for GMA and getting to co-anchor a newscast with my mom, a former reporter.
Some of my favorite interviews include Matthew McConaughey and Jimmy Buffet at SXSW and B.J. Novak on filming "Vengeance" set in West Texas.
I had the privilege of winning four student awards at the Lone Star Emmys, winning "Best University Film" at the 2020 Austin Revolution Film Festival and being selected as one of the top eight outstanding 2020 UT graduates.
When I'm off the clock, I love binge watching TV shows, writing short stories/screenplays, baking and eating my weight in Mexican and Indian food. I also am a full-time assistant to my chiweenie Mr. Wiggles.
